TEN YEAR CHARTER MEMBERS

Cindy Green Ashley served as Recording Secretary (2014/2015), and Historian (2017). Responsible for setting up the website for Driving Force under Sandy Osborne's administration and continues to be the Website Editor maintaining current events, league sign-up forms, Birdie's Nest, Unofficial Photographer and ALL things DRIVING FORCE! I have many DF Memories: Participating as a Marshal on hole # 2 during the LPGA tournaments held in Prattville, AL. and seeing the professional golfers up close! Always fun to win awards and last year's FIRST PLACE LOW GROSS in the 9 Hole league was a confidence booster! Finally playing in the AL/GA Shootout (2016) with the ladies from Brown's Mill and WINNING THE TEAM EVENT with my partner Jodie and our score contributed to DF retaining the trophy for the second straight year!

Mary Gambles Boone served as Recording Secretary in 2009, 2016 and 2017. She coined the phrase "Social Golfer" because she has a very high handicap, plays for fun, and is not very competitive when it comes to winning trophies and prizes. She accepted the quote from Doris Collier, "If you don't play well, at least you can look like a golfer and know the rules of the game." Mary has volunteered for Greg Calhoun Celebrity Golf Tournaments and Steve Harvey Golf Tournaments. She volunteers each year for LPGA, RTJ, Prattville. She has played in Congresswoman Terry Sewell's Tournament, Omega, and ISTAP Tournaments. Mary has been the MC of our banquets three times and always entertains us with her comedic insight of the game's less serious side. When she was asked to bring the occasion several years ago, she entitled it, It's All About Golf. The excerpt below tells how she feels about DFWGC, "I have found a sanctuary, A place to come to stop my worrying honey, A place to come to recognize the first golfer, And I only have to follow God's rules when I get here - S M I L E

Kim Davis served as Vice President in 2013 and as President in 2014 - 2015. I am pleased to have initiated several “firsts” for our league including branding the official Driving Force logo that identifies our organization and speaks to a first-class look for our league. Another special memory is initiating the first women’s golf event that kicked off the LPGA tournament in Prattville in 2014 and 2015 and to play for a cause: breast cancer awareness and research. My passion for women’s golf created the idea for the Monday tournament that drew tremendous support from female golfers from across the state. I also will cherish volunteering as a tv scorer for the Golf Channel during the LPGA and walking the fairways with the best female golfers in the world, Ariya Jutarnugan, Stacy Lewis, Lexi Thompson, Cristie Kerr, Minjee Lee, Brooke Henderson, MJ Hur, Brittany Lang, Chella Choi and several others. There is no great experience than walking down the 18th fairway with golfers like Ariya, who won her first LPGA career tournament in Alabama. I tell my friends, had I learned to play this game when I was young, Julie Inkster and I would be best golf friends all because of being a part of Driving Force Women’s Golf Club.

Patricia Elliott's most memorable memory came during one year of playing in the annual Brown's Mill AL/GA Shootout. "My partner Deborah Harris and I were down 5 with 6 to go and we won!"

Deborah Harris has held the following positions: Financial Secretary (2017 and 2013), Vice-President/League Play Coordinator (2009 and 2010), 18 Hole League Play Coordinator (2014, 2015 and 2016). "Although, I have several special DFWGC memories; the one that always rises to the top of my list is our first league play day in 2007. To see women of color coming together to enjoy the game of golf was a sight to behold. In each of my succeeding special golf moments; first birdie, first chip-in birdie, first time breaking into lower golf scores in the 9-Hole and 18-Hole leagues and etc.…. the realization of the importance of our first league play was always with me. Because without the first, my other memories, may not have been possible."

Eloise Luckie served as Recording Secretary in 2011, 2012 and participating on the Social Committee. A player in both the 9 and 18 hole leagues, her fondest Driving Force memory is when she first started, "I was hitting the ball everywhere!"

CHARLIE M. LASSITER: Served as Treasurer from January 26, 2012 through December 4, 2013. Was appointed as Chairperson of the first Handicap Committee for DFWGC, which included research and setting up the program to get everyone started with recording their scores for GHIN Index purposes. This required taking a test, administered by the Alabama Golf Association, in order to be certified in the area. My fondest memory as a member of DFWGC was working with the LPGA in Scoring Central for 2 years, meeting and greeting all the LPGA golfers at Capitol Hill and being a part of behind the scenes scoring for publication on television. Lexi Thompson, who is now very famous, was among that group of golfers. I still have the photograph she allowed me to take of her. I have worked on many other committees including the By-Laws and Awards Committees.

Doris Collier: I've enjoyed being a part of a club that has lasted ten years that's a remarkable accomplishment. Best memory was the Myrtle Beach trip and volunteering (5) times at the LPGA.

Dorothy Dowell: As a charter member of the Driving Force, I can say it has been an amazing experience. Each time I partner with a different player; it allowed me the opportunity to get to know that individual on a more personal level. The past 10 years have been a joy and I'm looking forward to 10 plus more.

Inette Dixon: I have enjoyed these past ten years as a charter member of Driving Force. My most exciting memory was meeting some of the professional ladies of the LPGA and volunteering when they came to Prattville. I hope to continue to grow in the sport of golf while cultivating relationships as well.

Mae Tullis remembers the day she met Sandy Osborne on the driving range at Gateway Golf Course. Mae remembers it was a cold and windy day. My fondest memory was the day all these women converged on the golf course to play and the men were just staring because they had never seen that many women playing golf.
Mae has served as the 9 Hole League Coordinator and Coordinator to recruit Marshals for hole number two when the LPGA came to Prattville. She has also served as parliamentarian and secretary.

Josephine McCall (Jo). Driving Force Women’s Golf Club gave me the opportunity to develop new skills in a sport I had only been able to read about and watch on TV. With the lessons utilizing golf pro Tom McGhee, I quickly learned skills proficient enough to not only play with Driving Force but gave me the confidence to play with the City League. Then of course, DFWGC ladies with skill such as Hattie Robinson and Ann Lovett were encouraging and helpful with practicing skills on non-game days.
I value the friendships acquired over the years. My most memorable events occurred with City League: Tom suggested playing in weather 55 degrees or above, City League only respected grounds too wet to play; therefore I had mittens and blankets many days and enjoyed playing sometimes in frigid weather.
My only regret has been not being able to play often enough in the past few years to be classified as an active member. Long Live Driving Force!!!

Patricia A. Martin: It's a tremendous joy to have been a part of an organization from its inception to now celebrating the 10th anniversary of DFWG. I vividly remember that first meeting when a group of African American women enthusiastically met. We all wanted to play the game of golf.
Although I moved to Huntsville I was desirous of continuing my membership in Montgomery. I have had many firsts and fun experiences with DFWG. I am especially proud to have been able to coordinate the inaugural AL/TN shootout at Cherokee Ridge in August 12, 2017. DFWGC won every competition!!
