In the mid 1960’s, I was intrigued when I saw just a few minutes of a televised golf tournament. I had no knowledge of the game. However, I attempted to emulate what I’d just seen; without any real golfing equipment. In my grandparent’s back yard, I dug a hole, took a small rubber ball, and a piece of wood; then attempted to get that ball in the hole!
Finally, in 1999, I took my first golf lesson and joined a golf league in Omaha, Nebraska. After I returned to Alabama in 2001; I had been unable to play the game as often as I desired and slowly lost some of my golfing skills. However, when I met Dr. Essie McGhee that all changed. Because through Dr. McGhee, I was introduced to Driving Force Women’s Golf Club (DFWGC) and became a charter member in 2007. My years of working and playing with the ladies of DFWGC have indeed been a pleasure for it has enhanced my pursuit of learning the rules of the game, fulfilled my personal drive to enjoy the relaxation that this game provides, along with igniting my competitive drive. For the past twelve years DFWGC has met the challenges of providing venues in which our members, of various skill levels, have had fun on and off the golf course. As your newly elected President of DFWGC, I am looking forward to helping each member accomplish their personal best. As we continue our growth into the decade of 2020; I encourage each member to commit to play in as many golfing events, as well as, participate in as many of our DFWGC mission driven events, as possible. This way we will continue: “To enhance our knowledge about the game of golf, improve golf skills, enjoy camaraderie with other DFWGC members, enter into competition with other clubs and expose and mentor youth golfers to all aspects to the game of golf.” Just as our founders intended. Thank you for your confidence in me. I consider it an honor and privilege to serve as your president. Sincerely, Deborah Harris President - DFWGC |
